Arrogance vs. Ego, Pt. 2
The point of Pt. 1 of this post [See ‘Sell it Forward’] was really about not letting Ego be mistaken for Arrogance, which, especially in the humbling Sales environment of 2009 [whether in TV, Digital or Print], is in my mind going to basically kill you & your chances for success.
There are many very successful Group Publisher-types that I have also met, that are today’s SVP/Sales and more. Many of them have Sales capabilities far beyond my own. They are not the ones that I am talking about here.
Ego is what gives you the drive to do what you do in Sales, the sheer force of will. Ego gives you confidence that you can succeed, because you know what you need to focus on, to succeed: solving a customer problem or issue, with your product or service. Ego kept in check keeps the focus on THEM.
Arrogance keeps the focus on YOU. And that is exactly what I am suggesting you stay away from.
